Veterans, Psychedelics, and the Truth: Healing PTSD with Plant Medicine at Smoke Station HTX

At Smoke Station – Premium Bud Bar, we stand at the intersection of healing, science, and culture. As psychedelics continue to break into the mainstream, one powerful voice has joined the movement—and it's turning heads across the nation.

Rob O’Neill, the Navy SEAL veteran credited with killing Osama Bin Laden, recently opened up to Tucker Carlson about the life-changing impact of psychedelic therapy on his battle with PTSD. His message? “It works.”

And we believe him.

The War Hero Who Found Peace in Plant Medicine

In a raw and emotional interview, O’Neill revealed that he regularly undergoes ibogaine therapy—a psychedelic treatment banned in the U.S.—to manage the trauma from his military service. “I do ibogaine now. I do psychedelics,” he told Carlson. “It works.”

His words echo what many veterans and first responders are beginning to say: psychedelics save lives where pharmaceuticals and alcohol fail. O'Neill pointed out that he’s watched fellow veterans try to “drink their way out of PTSD,” only to spiral further. For him, and many others, psychedelics like ibogaine, psilocybin, and MDMA offer a true path to recovery—not escapism, but transformation.

“It shows you stuff. It kind of cleans out the closet,” O’Neill said of ibogaine, acknowledging the intense and emotional nature of the trip. “It’s terrifying… but it works.”

Why This Matters to Houston, to Veterans—and to Us

Here at Smoke Station in Houston, we’re more than a dispensary—we’re a community-led wellness space deeply rooted in the truth about plant medicine. Our upcoming Mushroom Bar and wellness offerings through our Mushrùm Theory line are specifically designed to support mental clarity, emotional resilience, and natural healing—especially for veterans, first responders, and others carrying unseen wounds.

And we’re not alone.

Organizations like VETS (Veterans Exploring Treatment Solutions) and Ambio are already flying veterans to places like Mexico where therapies like ibogaine are legal. But these treatments shouldn’t require a passport. They belong here—at home.

The Policy Shift: A New Era of Psychedelic Acceptance Is Coming

Backed by bipartisan support, Congress and the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) are now taking real steps toward making psychedelic therapy available to veterans across the country. Just this month:

  • Lawmakers introduced a bill to fund Centers of Excellence at VA hospitals focused on psychedelics.

  • HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. said the agency is “absolutely committed” to giving veterans access to legal psychedelic therapy within 12 months.

  • The VA pledged millions in research into MDMA-assisted therapy for PTSD and alcohol use disorder.

Even President Trump’s administration has acknowledged the importance of exploring these alternative therapies, with VA Secretary Doug Collins calling his discussions on psychedelics “eye-opening.”

The Future of Wellness Is Psychedelic—and It Starts Locally

The movement is growing. From Navy SEALs to Houston artists, entrepreneurs to trauma survivors—people are finding healing through fungi, roots, and compounds once dismissed or demonized.

At Smoke Station HTX, we’re proud to be a part of that shift. Our wellness-forward, science-backed product line includes:

  • Functional mushrooms (like Lion’s Mane, Reishi, and Cordyceps) for cognitive support and stress relief

  • Psilocybin-alternative edibles and microdose blends (where legally compliant)

  • Educational content and guided conversations to reduce stigma and increase access

  • Coming soon: Our dedicated Mushroom Wellness Bar as part of our Mushrùm Theory brand

💥 Breaking Stigmas. Elevating Minds. Supporting Veterans.

We honor the bravery of veterans like Rob O’Neill—not just for their service in battle, but for speaking truth in a time when healing should be accessible to all.

It’s time to move beyond fear and embrace what nature has always offered: real medicine, real clarity, and real relief.

If you're curious about how mushrooms, nootropics, or alternative wellness might support you or someone you love, stop by Smoke Station HTX—where healing begins, and stigma ends.
